Environmental Management
Telegärtner makes a significant contribution in ecology. As well in production as in day-to-day- business safeguard the environment is top priority. Catalogues are printed carbon-neutral and Telegärtner produces solar power with its own solar plant. Of course Telegärtner is certified as conforming to ISO 14001.
ISO DIN EN 14001
Telegärtner is certified as conforming to ISO 14001:2004
The international ISO 14001 accreditation sets out the internationally recognised standards required of an environmental management system. It is applicable to both manufacturing companies and service enterprises. The main focus of the ISO 14001 standard is a continual improvement process put in place by companies, service providers, public authorities, etc. whereby they set themselves environmental performance targets and seek to achieve these targets. Enterprises are required to set about this task by adopting an environmental policy, environmental goals and an environmental agenda. As is clearly emphasised in the standard, there are no hard and fast requirements as regards the environmental rating. It does, however, call for organisations to comply with the self-imposed obligations set out in their environmental policies.
Print CO2-tested
Telegärtner Coax 2010 and DataVoice Office 2011 catalogues boast carbon-neutral print production status
The awareness of climate change is all-pervasive in the printing industry and media as well. The “Print CO2-tested” initiative, led by print and media associations, is sensitising the sector to harmful emissions.
“Print-CO2-tested” was launched by the German Printing and Media Industries Federation (BVDM). The Federation worked with the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Freiburg Institute for Applied Ecology to develop the basic principles behind the move and to compute the CO2 volumes.
The “Print CO2-tested” seal stands for three fundamental objectives in respect of CO2, which are calculate, avoid and offset.
The printing firm which is taking part in the “Print CO2-tested” initiative has pledged to review its energy consumption with the help of independent experts.
Participating companies will be given access to an emissions calculator in order to calculate their CO2 emissions. This is an exact indicator of the levels of harmful greenhouse gases which are generated by a print job. They have the opportunity to offset the CO2 emissions caused by the relevant print job and to be actively engaged in combating climate change. These products are allowed to carry the "Print-CO2-offset" seal of approval.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
Telegärtner uses FSC-certified stationery and reprographic paper and we print our catalogues on certified paper.
The Forest Stewardship Council is an independent non-governmental and not-for-profit organisation established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. Products bearing the FSC logo are certified by an independent body in order to guarantee consumers that they are sourced from socially, economically and ecologically sustainable forestry. 10 fundamental principles and 56 criteria form the basis of the FSC forest management standards. These include respecting international labour laws, prohibiting the use of toxic chemicals, and deploying appropriate systems to manage areas requiring special protection, e.g. cultural or sacred sites, habitats of endangered animals and plants.
Telegärtner produces solar power
Telegärtner produces some 15 % of its annual power requirement with its own solar installation.
Telegärtner Karl Gärtner GmbH has installed solar panels on the roof of its building in Steinenbronn which will generate enough solar power in future to meet up to 15 per cent of its annual power requirement without impacting on climate change. The photovoltaic system consists of 410 solar panels and was put into service at the end of June 2010. The panels cover over 2,000 square metres of roof. “The annual reductions with the system will amount to around 57 tonnes of CO2 and around 43 tonnes of sulphur dioxide”, said Florian Gärtner, business manager at Telegärtner, underlining the company’s “active contribution to environmental protection”. The polycrystalline modules represent the latest technology and have been used to capitalise on their outstanding feature which is their high degree of efficiency. With a system output of 94.3 kWp (kilowatt peak) and a total annual output of 91,000 kWh, the company has invested in green technology for the future and will be able to generate some 15 % of the power it consumes every year. When faced with the need to repair the flat roof of the building, the management decided at the beginning of the year to install a photovoltaic system and, in so doing, to make a significant contribution to environmental protection.
